The short answer
Old TVs, computers and monitors count as e-waste, and haulers ask you to keep them out of your trash cart. In LA and Orange County you can book a free e-waste or bulky pickup where your city offers one, or drop electronics at a free S.A.F.E. Center (LA) or one of the four OC household hazardous waste centers. A hauler can carry out big TVs and mixed electronics if you can't move them.

1. Book a free e-waste or bulky pickup
Cities split hard on electronics. Some take TVs on the bulky truck, some run a separate e-waste pickup, and some refuse electronics at the curb entirely. Check before you set a TV out.
Programs that take or collect electronics, from LA County pages:
- Carson (WM): TVs, computers and monitors are on the accepted list, within 4 free pickups a year of up to 5 items.
- Cerritos (Athens Services): runs free bulky item and e-waste pickups of up to 5 items per request.
- Paramount: offers free curbside e-waste pickup; call at least 24 hours ahead.
- La Mirada (EDCO): runs a separate free e-waste pickup alongside its unlimited bulky service.
- City of Los Angeles (LASAN): lists TVs, computers and monitors as accepted, though the same page also calls bulky items non-electronic. Name the TV when you book on MyLA311.

Cities that won't take a TV at the curb
These LA County programs exclude electronics from bulky pickup, so plan on a drop-off or a separate program:
- Pasadena: excludes electronic waste and computers.
- Commerce: excludes computers, TVs and cell phones.
- Torrance and Signal Hill: exclude electronic waste.
- Santa Clarita (Burrtec): excludes e-waste including TVs and points residents to the Burrtec Santa Clarita facility at 25772 Springbrook Ave.
- Beverly Hills: excludes TVs, computers and monitors.

E-waste pickup in Orange County
Several OC cities keep e-waste separate from the bulky allowance, which is good news if you have a pile of old electronics:
- Laguna Hills (CR&R): unlimited curbside e-waste pickup that doesn't count against your 2 bulky pickups.
- Rancho Santa Margarita (CR&R): free e-waste collection separate from its 4 bulky pickups.
- Cypress (Valley Vista Services): anything with a circuit board or battery is collected separately and must stay out of carts.
- Mission Viejo (WM): its 3 bulky pickups a year cover TVs, computers and monitors.
- Buena Park (EDCO): only one TV or computer monitor is listed as acceptable per pickup.

2. Drop electronics off for free
Free drop-off is the most reliable option in both counties.
- LA's S.A.F.E. Centers take TVs, computers, cell phones, cables and printers free for City of LA and LA County residents. The LA-Glendale center in Atwater Village is open Saturdays; Washington Boulevard, Randall Street (Sun Valley), Gaffey Street (San Pedro), Nicole Bernson (Northridge) and Hyperion (Playa del Rey) are open weekends. You stay in your car while staff unload.
- EDCO Environmental Collection Center, Signal Hill: an LA County permanent HHW and e-waste center open on scheduled Saturdays.
- Burbank Recycle Center: takes electronics on weekdays only, not Saturdays or City holidays.
- Orange County's four HHW centers in Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Irvine and at Prima Deshecha take TVs, tablets, cell phones and computers free for OC residents, Tuesday to Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm.
- Sunshine Canyon Landfill takes computers and monitors for a fee. Puente Hills MRF and CLARTS do not take e-waste.

3. Donate or 4. sell working electronics
Newer flat-screens, laptops and game consoles that still work can be donated or sold. Not every donation center takes older tube TVs, so call first. Wipe phones and computers before they leave your hands, and remove any drives you want to keep.
5. Hire a hauler
A hauler is the easier route when it's a big console TV, an old projection set, or electronics mixed in with a garage or house full of other junk.
Roa Solution Junk Removal carries out TVs, computers, monitors, printers and other electronics from homes and offices, working or not, and hauls them away with whatever else needs to go. Same-day or next-day pickup depending on availability. Pricing starts at $190. Text photos to (562) 219-9266.

What it usually costs
S.A.F.E. Centers and OC HHW centers are free for residents. Sunshine Canyon charges per computer or monitor. A hauler prices by truck space and labor, and one TV still meets the $190 starting minimum, so electronics usually make the most sense as part of a bigger pickup.
