Cubicle frames and office furniture being cleared from an office floor

How to Get Rid of Office Furniture in LA and Orange County

Guide · Nov 6, 2026

The short answer

Free city bulky pickups in LA and Orange County are for residents, so a business usually can't use them for desks, chairs, cubicles or filing cabinets. Your options are a transfer station that takes business loads, selling or donating usable pieces, or hiring a hauler. A home office is different: those pieces go out on your regular residential bulky pickup.

1. City bulky pickup: residents yes, businesses mostly no

If you work from home, a desk and chair are household bulky items and count against your normal allowance. If the furniture is coming out of a commercial space, the programs say so plainly:

  • El Segundo (EDCO): 4 free pickups a year for residential customers; commercial and multifamily customers must contact their hauler.
  • Culver City: all commercial pickups are charged under the city's adopted refuse rates.
  • South Pasadena (Athens Services): free for residents, but commercial customers must pay.
  • Duarte (Burrtec): commercial account holders don't get free bulky pickup.
  • Fountain Valley (Republic Services): commercial and multifamily customers pay a per-item fee.
  • Buena Park (EDCO): commercial and multifamily bin customers must contact the hauler for options.
  • Orange (CR&R): free for residents, with commercial pricing through CR&R.

2. Take it to a transfer station that serves businesses

These facilities say on their own pages that businesses can drop off, with no residency rule stated:

  • Athens Irwindale MRF: open to residents, contractors, businesses and the general public, Monday to Saturday.
  • DART, Downey: open to residents, contractors, businesses and the general public, and lists furniture.
  • Crown Recycling Services, Sun Valley: markets drop-off to small businesses and job sites, and lists scrap metal for steel desks and filing cabinets.
  • California Waste Services Downtown LA: lists furniture and metal and steel, open 24 hours.
  • CLARTS (Los Angeles) takes commercial haulers and contractors along with City of LA residents. In OC, Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine takes commercial loads only, with proof such as an Orange County business license or a California contractor's license.

Old office computers and electronics

Business e-waste has its own rules. OC Waste & Recycling's HHW centers don't accept waste from businesses, churches, schools or nonprofits. LA's S.A.F.E. Centers take business waste only through a paid program by appointment at certain centers; the Randall Street center in Sun Valley, for example, takes business waste by appointment only. Wipe or pull the drives before anything leaves the office.

3. Donate usable furniture

Good office chairs, desks and bookcases can go to schools, nonprofits and community groups. Call ahead with photos and a count, and ask whether they take cubicle panels and worn chairs before you offer them.

4. Sell it or give it away

Ergonomic chairs, standing desks and steel filing cabinets resell well. Post a bulk listing with a pickup window, the building's loading rules and whether buyers need a dolly. Whatever's left on the last day still has to go.

5. Hire a hauler for the office

Roa Solution Junk Removal clears desks and office chairs, cubicle panels and frames, filing cabinets and shelving, computers, monitors and printers, and boxes of paper. Tell us about loading docks, elevators and building hours when you send photos so we plan the job.

First-time commercial clients pay upfront for the first job. After that, we invoice contractors, property managers and businesses on net 10 or net 30 terms, and we do after-hours and weekend pickups so we don't disrupt your work. We're a licensed, registered California LLC with commercial auto insurance and workers' comp for employees. Pricing starts at $190. Text photos to (562) 219-9266.

What it usually costs

Facilities charge business loads by weight. A hauler prices by truck space, material, weight, access and labor, so a ground-floor suite with dock access costs less than the same furniture from an upper floor with a small elevator. Pricing starts at $190, and larger jobs get an estimate from photos or on site.
