Bulky item pickup in north Orange County, city by city
Each city contracts with a trash hauler, and that hauler runs bulky item pickup. You book it by phone with the hauler, using the number on your city's page linked below. Here is what each city's own page says.
| City | Hauler | Pickups per year | Items per pickup | Not accepted (per city page) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| La Habra | CR&R Incorporated | 4 free (single-family); 4 per unit (multi-family) | Up to 4 large items, or 20 bags/bundles under 50 lbs each | Not listed on the page |
| Brea | Republic Services | 3 | Up to 20 | Building materials, hazardous waste |
| Placentia | Republic Services | 4 (single-family) | Up to 8 | None listed on the page |
| Fullerton | Republic Services | Unlimited per calendar year | Unlimited | Building materials, hazardous waste |
Where the sources don't agree
City pages, hauler pages and older city pages don't always match. In our research, the hauler's own pages for Brea and Placentia appeared to list different pickup or item limits than the city pages above, and an older Fullerton page names a different company than the current one, which says Republic Services is the only provider.
Treat the table as a starting point. Confirm the limit, the item list and the set-out day when you call to book.
City-specific notes
La Habra: pickups are by appointment only. Extra pickups past the four free ones cost what the city calls a nominal fee, with no amount listed.
Brea: don't put items at the curb until your scheduled pickup date. Brea is also home to the county's Olinda Alpha Landfill.
Placentia: the city page tells you not to put household hazardous waste in any trash bin and points you to the county's collection centers.
Fullerton: the city FAQ lists unlimited pickups with unlimited items. Building materials and hazardous waste are still excluded.
Can you take it to the landfill yourself?
Not right now, for most people. OC Waste & Recycling lists Olinda Alpha in Brea and Prima Deshecha in San Juan Capistrano as open to Orange County residents. But the site currently shows an alert: no general public self-haul at either landfill until further notice. The page doesn't say when that will change.
The Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine is for commercial haulers only and is not a public facility. Check the OC landfill page before you load a truck.
When to call Roa instead
City bulky pickup is a good deal when your items are already outside, fit the limit, and can wait for an appointment. Call a hauler when they can't.
- The items are inside, upstairs, or in the garage or backyard, and you can't move them
- You have more than your city's per-pickup limit
- You need it gone today or tomorrow
- You're clearing a whole house, apartment or garage
- You don't want things sitting at the curb
