Household hazardous waste drop-off in LA and Orange County

Paint, chemicals, oil and batteries: free county drop-offs

The short answer

Paint, solvents, pool chemicals, motor oil, batteries and other household hazardous waste go to a county drop-off, not the trash. In LA County, residents use the City of LA's S.A.F.E. Centers, the EDCO center in Signal Hill and the County's one-day roundup events. Orange County residents have four collection centers. Residents drop off for free. We don't haul hazardous waste.

In Los Angeles County: S.A.F.E. Centers

The City of Los Angeles runs seven S.A.F.E. Centers. They're free for City of LA and LA County residents, take up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per visit, and you stay in your car while staff unload. Most open on weekends only, so check the hours below before you load up.

What we take instead

We don't take paint, chemicals, solvents, propane tanks or anything else on these lists. Once the hazardous items are gone, we haul the rest: furniture, boxes, appliances and garage clutter. See garage cleanouts or what we take and what we don't.
