Broken drywall, plaster and bagged debris waiting to be hauled away

Dumps near Central LA and the Westside

Who can use each site, hours and posted fees

The short answer

California Waste Services (Downtown LA), Downey Area Recycling and Transfer Station (DART) and Puente Hills MRF take loads from the public. Scholl Canyon Landfill and CLARTS (Central LA transfer station) take residents of their area only. Commerce Refuse-to-Energy is closed or not taking public loads: see the notices below.

  • Puente Hills Landfill closed in 2013; the MRF at the same entrance takes self-haul

Puente Hills Landfill closed on October 31, 2013. The Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility at the same entrance (13130 Crossroads Pkwy S., City of Industry) takes self-haul loads Monday to Saturday, 4 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Scholl Canyon Landfill

    We use this one

    Landfill · Glendale · Open

    Residents only

    Takes:
Solid waste generated within the Scholl Canyon wasteshed; Clean dirt (criteria apply; call 818-243-9779); Clean asphalt; Green waste
    Address:
3001 Scholl Canyon Road, Glendale, 91206
    Hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; Saturday 8:00 AM-3:30 PM; closed Sunday and major holidays
    Surcharges effective 2024-07-01:
Uncovered loads capable of producing litter: $5.40 per ton or per load; non-manifested tire loads: $5.40 per ton or per load
    Minimum charge:
1-ton minimum applies except tires and special handling (LACSD tipping-fee page)
    Phone:
    (818) 243-9779 (number given for clean-dirt criteria); LACSD Solid Waste: (562) 908-4288

Only clean dirt gets the dirt rate here. Dirt mixed with trash or debris is charged as trash; we've paid about $105 a ton for that. That's what we paid, not the posted fee: call the landfill to confirm current rates.

Expect a 30-minute to 1-hour wait depending on the time of day. 12 to 2 PM is usually the busiest.
