Broken drywall, plaster and bagged debris waiting to be hauled away

Where to dump concrete and dirt in LA and Orange County

Only the sites whose official pages confirm it

The short answer

Few public sites post that they take concrete and dirt, and most that do want it clean: no trash, wood or debris mixed in. This page lists only the sites whose official pages confirm it. Others may take it too, so call before you load a truck.

In Los Angeles County

Some of these sites take residents only, and several post a lower rate for clean loads than for trash. Check each site's rules and fee table before you load up.

  • Scholl Canyon Landfill

    We use this one

    Landfill · Glendale · Open

    Residents only

    Takes:
Clean dirt (criteria apply; call 818-243-9779); Clean asphalt
    Address:
3001 Scholl Canyon Road, Glendale, 91206
    Hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; Saturday 8:00 AM-3:30 PM; closed Sunday and major holidays
    Phone:
    (818) 243-9779 (number given for clean-dirt criteria); LACSD Solid Waste: (562) 908-4288

Only clean dirt gets the dirt rate here. Dirt mixed with trash or debris is charged as trash; we've paid about $105 a ton for that. That's what we paid, not the posted fee: call the landfill to confirm current rates.

Expect a 30-minute to 1-hour wait depending on the time of day. 12 to 2 PM is usually the busiest.

Rules change. Check the city or county page before you rely on a limit, fee or date.

Where to dump concrete and dirt in LA and Orange County: questions

Can I put concrete or dirt in my trash cart?

Check your hauler's rules first. For more than a small amount, use a site on this page that lists it as accepted.

Is clean dirt cheaper to dump than trash?

At some sites. Savage Canyon posts a lower per-ton rate for solid inert material than for refuse, and California Waste Services lists separate rates for clean inert loads and clean dirt. A load mixed with trash or debris can be charged as trash.

Does Scholl Canyon Landfill take dirt from anyone?

No. Scholl Canyon Landfill only takes waste from inside its wasteshed, and clean dirt has its own criteria: call the number on its page first.
