The short answer
City bulky pickups in LA and Orange County almost never take concrete, dirt, brick or rock, so your choices are to haul it to a facility that accepts inert material or pay someone to load and haul it. In LA County, California Waste Services in Downtown LA takes concrete and dirt, Crown Recycling in Sun Valley takes inert dirt and rocks, and Scholl Canyon Landfill takes clean dirt from residents of its wasteshed. In OC, the Huntington Beach transfer station takes clean dirt and concrete.

1. City bulky pickup: almost always a no
Concrete, brick and dirt show up on many do-not-take lists. A rare few allow a small amount in bags.
- City of Los Angeles (LASAN): excludes construction materials, naming concrete, bricks and dirt.
- Lakewood (EDCO): excludes building materials, including bricks, roofing, dirt and broken concrete.
- Walnut (Valley Vista Services): excludes concrete, rebar, masonry, bricks, broken asphalt, rocks, sod and dirt.
- Lomita (Athens Services): dirt, brick, block and concrete need a special pickup rather than the free one.
- Hacienda Heights (Valley Vista Services): one of the few that allows any, with up to 2 bags or bundles of construction debris under 70 lb each per pickup.
- Orange County: Buena Park and La Palma (EDCO) exclude dirt, concrete and asphalt, and Santa Ana, Mission Viejo and Laguna Woods exclude construction and demolition waste.

2. Drop it off in LA County
Inert material is priced by weight, and a pickup bed of broken concrete gets heavy fast. These LA County sites list concrete, dirt or rock on their official pages:
- California Waste Services Downtown LA: concrete and masonry, dirt and soil, open 24 hours, with no residency rule stated. Enter from Union Pacific Ave, not Noakes St.
- Crown Recycling Services, Sun Valley: lists inert dirt and rocks along with construction and demolition waste. Open seven days.
- Scholl Canyon Landfill, Glendale: takes clean dirt and clean asphalt, but only from its wasteshed, which includes Glendale, Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Sierra Madre, La Cañada Flintridge, Altadena, La Crescenta and Montrose. Clean-dirt criteria apply, so call first.
- Savage Canyon Landfill, Whittier: takes dirt, rocks, concrete and asphalt, but only from City of Whittier residents and businesses, with proof of residency.
- Sunshine Canyon Landfill, Sylmar: takes asphalt.

Drop it off in Orange County
Options for homeowners with a small load are limited:
- Republic Services Huntington Beach Transfer Station: takes clean dirt, soil and rock and clean concrete from self-haul customers, with no residency rule stated.
- Olinda Alpha (Brea) and Prima Deshecha landfills: accept soil that meets their criteria, and only take waste from Orange County with proof of origin. Check OC Waste & Recycling's updates page before you go.
- OC's free clean broken asphalt program needs a two-axle self-unloading dump truck or larger. Hand-unloaded loads don't qualify, so it isn't a pickup-truck option.
- Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine takes commercial loads only.

3. Give clean fill away
Clean dirt with no trash, roots or chunks in it is sometimes wanted by neighbors filling a planter bed or leveling a yard, and clean broken concrete can become a path or a garden wall. Post it free and let the taker load it. Mixed debris won't go this way.
4. Hire someone to load and haul it
Breaking out a patio or digging a trench leaves a pile that's heavy and slow to move by hand. Roa Solution Junk Removal loads and hauls broken concrete, dirt, brick and rock, under 2 tons per job. Because it's heavy, we price it by weight from your photos, plus the carry and the labor.
We don't rent roll-off bins. Our crew does the loading, hauls it away and cleans up. Pricing starts at $190. Text photos of the pile, with something in the shot for scale, to (562) 219-9266.

What it usually costs
Facilities charge by the ton, often with a minimum, so a small load can cost about as much as a bigger one. A hauler's price depends mostly on weight and access: a few broken pavers by the driveway cost far less than a backyard slab. Pricing starts at $190.
