How to Get Rid of a Playset or Trampoline in LA and Orange County

Guide · Nov 6, 2026

The short answer

To get rid of a backyard playset or trampoline in LA or Orange County, take it apart first. Once it's down to pieces that fit your city's size limits, a bulky pickup may take it; Pasadena lists play equipment by name. Otherwise, haul the wood and metal to a facility that takes them, give it away to someone who'll dismantle it, or have it taken apart and hauled off.

1. Break it down for a bulky pickup

No program takes a fully assembled swing set or a trampoline with its frame up. Size and weight limits decide whether the pieces qualify:

  • Pasadena: play equipment is on the accepted list for single-family homes, 2 free pickups a year by appointment, along with bundled wood up to 3 ft.
  • Long Beach: items no larger than 72 by 48 inches, and up to 8 large items per pickup on 12 pickups a year.
  • Azusa and Pomona (Athens Services): nothing over 60 lb or larger than 4 by 8 ft. Pomona also wants lumber cut and tied in bundles of 4 ft or less.
  • Rosemead (Republic Services): each item up to 50 lb and 4 by 4 by 6 ft.
  • City of Los Angeles (LASAN): large wood pieces are accepted, with unlimited free pickups for homes on City service.

Playset and trampoline pickup in Orange County

The OC program pages we checked don't name playsets or trampolines. The general limits apply:

  • Costa Mesa Sanitary District: items up to 8 by 4 ft and 150 lb, and wood limited to 1 cubic yard per pickup.
  • Santa Ana and Newport Beach: any single item must be manageable by two workers.
  • Unincorporated OC, like Coto de Caza, Ladera Ranch and Trabuco Canyon: 2 free pickups a year of up to 4 items each, which a pile of playset beams quickly outgrows.

2. Drop off the wood and metal

A wooden playset is mostly lumber, sometimes pressure-treated. A trampoline or metal swing set is a steel frame plus a mat, springs and netting. Sites that list those materials:

  • California Waste Services Downtown LA: wood and lumber, and metal and steel. Open 24 hours.
  • Crown Recycling Services, Sun Valley: wood and scrap metal, open seven days.
  • Athens Irwindale MRF and DART in Downey: general trash and construction and demolition waste, open to the public.
  • Puente Hills MRF, City of Industry: lists treated wood waste as not accepted, so check before bringing an old pressure-treated playset there.
  • Republic Services Huntington Beach Transfer Station: self-haul construction and demolition debris and trash.

3. Give it away

Playsets and trampolines in safe shape are popular free listings with families who have younger kids. Post photos, the dimensions and the brand, note any worn parts like a torn mat or rusty springs, and say the taker handles disassembly. A playset that's rotting or a trampoline with a broken frame shouldn't be passed on.

4. Have it taken down and hauled

Roa Solution Junk Removal takes apart wooden and metal playsets, swing sets, playhouses and trampolines, safety nets included, hauls the pieces away and cleans up the spot. We can clear the old toys and yard junk around them on the same trip.

Legs or posts set in concrete: send photos so we can price them. Pricing starts at $190, and teardown jobs are priced from photos. Text (562) 219-9266.
